Exclusive Album Premiere: White Vans Economic Trends (2017 EP)

Melbourne’s punk scene is revered, and with good reason. There’s a certain something to the punk bands that it breeds – it’s not quite a particular sound, look,  message nor attitude, but a kind of amalgamation. White Vans fall into that quintessentially Melbourne sound, and today we’re bringing you an exclusive listen of their debut EP, Economic Trends.

If their guitar driven sound isn’t ‘Melbourne’ enough – drawing influences from post punk, 80s Australian and noise punk – then the details of the recording will push your opinions over the edge. The EP was recorded in an undisclosed warehouse in Port Melbourne last year; engineered by Jack Opaluch and mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression RingTotal Control). There’s even guest vocals from well-known Melbourne musician Simon Fazio (YISNew Band). The only way this could be more Melbourne is if it somehow incorporated trams, coffee and AFL (I’m sure they were somehow involved in the making of this album).

White Vans finish up their residency at The Tote this Sunday, August 27th, playing a free show with FERLA and 808’s & Greatest Hits. They’re also playing SUNIFEST 3 (again, at The Tote), with Cable TiesGabriella CohenPeter Bibby, and many, many more.

The album is out now, grab yourself a copy here.
