Top 8 Artists to watch out for at Vivid 2018

Sydney’s annual lights, music and ideas show is back for another winter, and as Vivid celebrates its 10th year in the making, we delve into some of our top picks for artists to look out for this year.

Ice Cube

One of the founding fathers of gangsta rap will be performing for four nights only during Vivid, and we could not be more pumped. Ice Cube is known for his raising political issues through his music and paving the way for future international hip-hop artists and this will be his debut performance at the Sydney Opera House.

The iconic rapper will be the first rapper to perform at the Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall during Vivid Live, and with classics such as “Straight Outta Compton” to more recent hits such as “Crowded”Ice Cube is bound to keep audiences on their feet.

Solange

A daughter of the famed Knowles family, the announcement of Solange as one of the main headliners for this year’s Vivid sparked a lot of interest and excitement and for good reason. This is the singer’s only Australian show, and after releasing chart-topping album A Seat at the Table, Solange is set to ignite the stage for four nights.

St. Vincent

The Grammy award winning artist will be playing for one night only at Carriageworks. Inspired by the contemplation in the cracks between us and the interconnectedness of humanity, be sure not to miss her set.

H.E.R

In her Australian debut, the American singer-songwriter will be performing on the 29th May at Vivid Live. With two  mixtapes under her belt, as well as co-signs from the likes of Usher and Alicia Keys and a debut album set to drop soon, be sure not to miss her show by buying tickets here.

Mazzy Star

With a new EP set to be released in time for their exclusive Australian performance at Vivid, Mazzy Star is set to be one of the artists you will not want to miss during Vivid.

The leaders of the underground psychedelic music scene, the 5-piece band will be celebrating their 29th year since debut this year, and with hits such as “Into Dust” and “Blue Light”, you can catch their show here.

Dreams

Dreams see iconic Australian artists Daniel Johns and Luke Steel come together in an Australian premiere exclusive only to Vivid. A hot collaboration between the frontman of Silverchair and the frontman of Empire of the Sun, the debut has been 15 years in the making.

No Mono

The duo behind No Mono are set to premiere their full length album at this year’s Vivid LIVE, and with soulful voices and outspoken melodies, No Mono are set to be the artists to look out for in 2018.

Middle Kids

With a world tour right at their heels, Middle Kids will be hosting just one performance in their hometown on May 27th. Their debut album will see the exploration of ideals and emotions, and with the release set for May 4th, Middle Kids is set for success for the rest of 2018.
