The final day of the first weekend of Austin City Limits 2015 wraps up with some exciting appearances from the realms of pop, hip-hop, Americana, blues and more. We’ve been bringing you our tips for the festival so far this weekend, click through to see who we’d recommend catching if you’re out at Zilker Park this weekend or simply lining up some sweet live stream action from home.
The Decemberists
4:30pm on the Honda Stage
The Decemberists are known for dynamic and emotional live shows and their latest album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, fans had the opportunity to get a glimpse of the band at arguably their best. Incredibly talented live performers, this will be a set we’re definitely jealous to be missing out on live.
Waxahatchee
12:00pm on the Miller Lite Stage
Katie Crutchfield, aka Waxahatchee, was an artist everyone was talking about at SXSW and since her showcases out in Austin back in March, this lady’s talent and profile has become known to more and more people – rightly so. Her record Ivy Tripp, released in April, shows a strength within songwriting and an emotional collection of music that has been wonderful to track in terms of the way the material has been realised live.
Chance the Rapper
5:30pm on the Miller Lite Stage
One of Chicago’s favourite sons, Chance the Rapper comes to Austin with a surefire dynamic live show that fans all over have been loving this year. Always ambitious and displaying oodles of talent, the hip-hop artist has been deserved of all the acclaim he’s received this year.
Sheppard
1:30pm on the Austin Ventures Stage
Brisbane kids Sheppard continue their US domination, set to hit ACL with a set teeming with that vibrancy and flair that has become a trademark of theirs. With rousing pop and melodies perfect for this type of large festival audience, it’s a no-brainer that Sheppard are going to be an act to catch at this year’s festival.
Years & Years
2:30pm on the Austin Ventures Stage
One of the break out acts of 2015, Years & Years return to Austin to build on the conversation and buzz they generated at SXSW earlier this year. Since Communion‘s release, the trio have only been going from strength to strength – sold out shows through the UK and Europe have landed Years & Years as one of London’s most popular exports of the minute and they are quickly generating a similar standing in markets abroad.
Daughter
1:30pm on the Miller Lite Stage
Daughter’s return to big festival stages after a little while away is exciting – we are starting to hear some new material from the band that indicates that there’s some exciting stuff still to come. Such a gorgeous bunch of live performers too, this will be a set not to be missed.
Also keep an eye out for Vance Joy, who takes time out from touring with Taylor Swift to hit up ACL. The Melbourne native’s profile has only continued to grow stronger with each performance and it’s no surprise to see him rise as a festival favourite internatationally. He plays the HomeAway Stage at 5:30pm.
