Tasmania’s annual winter festival Dark Mofo is back for another year, and with another year comes another batch of amazing artists. But if you’re not sure who to see, don’t fret. We’ve selected seven artists to look out for over this 10-day festival.
St. Vincent
This isn’t the first time the American singer-songwriter has played in Australia, but with a new EP Masseduction under her belt and managing to land in Billboard’s top 200, missing this artist is out of the question. Known for her unique and distinct style, St Vincent combines rock, electro pop and jazz to create a euphoric blend of sounds and senses, the Grammy-award winning artist will be hitting Australian shores this June to play for Dark Mofo, before heading up to Sydney to headline Vivid.

Laurie Anderson
How do you begin to summarise the multi-talented, inventive, pioneering composer, musician and film director that is Laurie Anderson? The American veteran artist known for her performance art and emphasis on technology and the visual style will be gracing Tasmania to perform in Dark Mofo, performing in true Laurie Anderson style, with a range of video, live music and spoken word in her performance.
Anderson will be playing on the 13th June so be sure to catch her then!
Jagwar Ma
It will be the Australian psychedelic band’s first show of 2018, and with their unique style of the stage and the club, they are definitely a band you do not want to miss out on.

William Basinski
The avant-garde composer will be showcasing his most famous piece The Disintegration Loops, a work based on the decaying collections of tapes of his earlier music.

Marlon Williams
The New Zealand award-winning singer songwriter will be playing at Dark Mofo this year, and known for his blues and country music reflecting heartbreak and melancholy, he proves to be an artist that more than deserves a place on this list.

Laura Jean
Hailing from Melbourne, the debut of the musician’s latest album Devotion will cement Jean’s role in the music world, and with a unique combination of deep pop and folk music, Jean is someone you definitely do not want to miss at Dark Mofo.

Tiny Ruins
The Auckland based four-piece band known for their indie folk take to the stage on the 21st June, and joined by musician Jess Ribeiro, this collaboration is something to look forward to.

Dark Mofo is Tasmania’s winter festival that runs this year from the 15th June to the 24th June in Hobart. Exploring winter’s old and ancient history and mythology, the festival will feature exhibits from the features like the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), not to mention Tasmania’s annual Nude Solstice Swim.
