SXSW Music Interview: Tigertown (Sydney) chat new music, writing while being away from Australia & more!

Tigertown returned to Austin for their second SXSW this year, off the back of what’s already been a successful few months on the road through the States. The Sydney band has been garnering praise for shows alongside St. Lucia in particular and this month, the band returns home for their long-awaited Australian tour, kicking off in Sydney tonight.

With their new record, the Lonely Cities EP, Tigertown have formed some of their best songs yet, the material coming together over the last two years away.

“We’ve written a lot of music in that time,” Chris Collins says, catching up with the AU at the Aussie BBQ. “We’ve been lucky enough to work with a lot of different people. We collaborated with some great guys over here, guys that we’re fans of as well. I think that, just writing music constantly for two years, we’ve got a collection that we love.”

“It’s funny,” he says. “We had 30 songs to choose from in the end and it was just really obvious which ones the best ones were. Our favourites were everyone else’s favourites; it’s good, when you’ve got that many [songs], the good songs really stand out.”
