Melbourne based four piece, The Harpoons, are an infectious group of siblings and mates, who came together way back in to create some incredibly catchy tunes throughout their careers. Starting as young teens, brothers Henry and Jack were busy jotting down songs taking inspiration from R&B and Disco from the sixties and seventies. Bec Ridges contributes an angelic and detaining voice that has captured their wide audience for the past nine years.
Falling for You was the highly anticipated debut album from the groovy quartet. The LP itself relies heavily on meaty beats and bass lines (sorry vegans); Falling For You will make you want to dance on the main street, and cry in your car all in the space of 34 minutes.
Produced by Henry Madin (Gaga Music Art) and Martin King, Falling for You includes 10 glorious tracks. “Never Stop Loving You” is a personal favourite, filled with catchy hooks that’ll get glued like Bostik into your head, so deeply that your family will get sick of hearing you humming it. Another unforgettable track, “Unforgettable”, is the opener of the album, starting of with chill beats, Bec Ridges’ harmonious voice comes out of the dark, powering into a pretty love ballad. “Hold On a Minute” is also a very notable track on Falling For You, with a strong piano lead, harmonies from lovely back up singers, and bongo drums completing the triangle.
This album is like a love child of Ainslie Wills and Ngaiire, whose sperm donor was Big Scary. Many more beautiful sounds are to come.
