Harley Streten, known to the rest of the world as Flume, dropped his freshest music on the market titled Skin Companion EP II, alongside his 2016 LP Skin.
The companion EP came to fans as a surprise, offering his audience a chance to hear Flume’s work with artists such as Glass Animals, Pusha T and Moses Sumney. 2017 can only calls success for Flume, after topping off the Triple J Hottest 100 with “Never Be Like You” in first place as well as scoring his first Grammy at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
What feels as though Streten is giving credit back to his original fan base with a taste of what’s to come in the new year, the EP brings us back to some of his finest works. Flume’s self-titled debut record in 2012 caught fans in a world wind of emotions with a soft quality of sound, however it was in 2016 where his success shocked Flume’s original fan base and wowed mainstream airwaves – because the sound was so different from what we were originally used to. However, with the release of the Skin Companion EP II, fans can sit back and enjoy the same momentum from his debut record with a similar quality of sound.
Featuring tracks constructed and indulged in a deep bass sound, the Skin Companion EP II is perfect to listen to whilst having a few drinks on a Sunday afternoon, to smashing it out on a Saturday night with a bunch of friends who love to get down to business. The first track titled “Enough”, featuring Pusha T, begins with a tight mild sound accompanied by multiple dark hitting beats, whereas the second and third track of the album, “Weekend (feat. Moses Sumney)” and “Depth Charge”, ultimately differ from one another. The last track on the EP featuring Dave Bayley from Glass Animals, titled “Fantastic”, is as good as its title suggests. With the perfect mixture of vocals and sound, Streten paints a culminating finish to the sweet composition of tracks.
We’re excited to see what there is to come from Streten in 2017, but for now fans can get stuck into his latest works.
Review Score: 8.5 out of 10.
