Jack Colwell headlined the Sydney Opera House’s Studio last night, accompanied by a five piece string ensemble and a guitarist, with support from Marcus Whale and Miles Brown. The sold out show gave the Sydney artist the opportunity to take his audience on a trip through his catalogue – throwing a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” in for good measure (which he performed solo) – as well as tease some future material. Miles Horler’s orchestral arrangements gave Colwell’s music beautiful depth, as Colwell jumped with skill between a keyboard and the Grand Piano, transforming his music with a dose of splendour for the iconic venue.
The set was celebrating the release of a new EP When The World Explodes, which features reworkings of his debut EP Only When Flooded Could I Leave, such as “On With The Show” – a highlight of the night – “Far From View” and “Don’t Cry Those Tears”. A spectacular evening of music from some of Australia’s finest emerging talents. Enjoy Belinda Dipalo’s photos from the night:
