Women dominate the National Live Music Awards nominations

With all the buzz around the ARIAs kicking off today, the National Live Music Awards got in just ahead of them with the massive unveiling of their nominees for 2017. During their official event in Sydney overnight, nominees across 54 categories were revealed, with the ladies of Australian music coming through strongly in holding the lion’s share of nominations with 63% in the national categories and 51% in the State/Territory categories.

With the likes of Tash SultanaSampa the GreatOdette MercyJulia Jacklin and Kardajala Kirridarra all taking spots, the NLMA’s are a perfect way to represent how much our live territory has been painted with the vibrancy of intriguing and entertaining music across the board, and how diverse the face of it has become.

Leading the nominations for this year’s National Live Music Awards are Sydney’s Gang of Youths, with six nods across both national and state categories, while Jacklin, Amy Shark and Camp Cope follow closely behind with five nominations a piece.

The public voted categories – Best Live Act & Best Live Voice – will be open for fans to have their say from October 23rd; stay tuned for more information on that as it comes. The winners of the NLMAs will be announced at events all around the country on December 7th – all free, except for Melbourne’s Invite-Only Gala at the Grace Darling. Partnering with Support Act for another year, $5 from each ticket sold for the Melbourne event will go towards the category; if you haven’t pre-booked, you’ll be asked to pay $5 on the door to contribute.
