Virginia Grohl and Mardi Caught named keynote speakers at BIGSOUND 2018

The first BIGSOUND announcement came on through today, with Mardi Caught (the head of new independent marketing services company, The Annex) and Virginia Grohl (author of From Cradle to Stage) being amongst the first names announced for the September music conference.

The initial round of buyers and influencers have also been announced to the program, with the added focus on participation from all delegates at BIGSOUND in terms of directing important conversation. The three new forums announced today – The New Music BusinessChanging Music Industry Behaviour and a forum dedicated to answering the question: “What would the current music industry look like if it was invented by our First Nations people?” – stand out as huge highlights of the BIGSOUND program, inviting much needed conversation into the round.

“Our motivation in building this year’s program is to create the neutral ground on which our industry can progress in a uniting, nurturing and welcoming way.” says programmer Maggie Collins. “Our two first keynote speakers encompass this idea perfectly, with one of the most badass label execs turned indie company CEO Mardi Caught, and the mother of Rock herself, Virginia Grohl.”

Grohl’s From Cradle to Stage book interviews the mothers of famous musicians, from Michael Stipe to Dr Dre, focusing on how these artists were raised and nurtured by such strong women. As the mother of one of rock’s greats – Dave – the book is a must read for any music fan.

Artist applications are now open until May 17th via www.bigsound.org.au – get involved!
