The State of Affairs: The Great Escape 2017 announce lead international partner, City of Parramatta Council form new partnership with Live Music Office & more!

This week in the music industry: the City of Parramatta Council have joined forces with the Live Music Office to foster the growth of the city’s live music scene and drive economic growth in its hospitality industry, Switzerland was announced as the lead international partner of The Great Escape; and the inaugural recipients of the Victorian Government’s brand new annual Good Music Neighbours Grant program were announced.

Last week, the City of Parramatta Council and the Live Music Office officially celebrated the launch of their new partnership focused on fostering the growth of the area’s live music scene.

The new partnership between the two organisations aims to promote live music gigs around the city by linking local musicians with local bars, cafes and other hospitality venues.

In a press release, the City of Parramatta Administrator,  Amanda Chadwick said that the new partnership  “is expected to provide an economic boost to the city through increased patronage and visitor spend, particularly as part of the night time economy”.

The Live Music Office Audience and Sector Development Director, Damian Cunningham said “integrating sector development initiatives and policy planning is essential to growing live music from the grass roots up”.

The Great Escape 2017 announces Switzerland as lead international partner

After another successful run in 2016, The Great Escape, one of the United Kingdom’s largest new music festivals, have announced Switzerland as their lead international partner for 2017. As a result, the annual music festival will be working with Swiss Music Export to include special showcases featuring performances from up and coming Swiss musicians, as well as various panel discussions focusing on the topic of the Swiss music industry.

In addition, the UK music festival will be hosting a street party featuring various food and drink stalls selling a wide range of Swiss delicacies.

Previous lead international partners of The Great Escape include Canada (2006), New Zealand (2009), France (2007), and Latvia and Lithuania (2016).

The festival will run from 18-20th of May 2017.

Good Music Neighbours 2016 Grant recipients announced

As part of the Victorian Government’s $22.2 million Music Works initiative, the very first recipients of the Good Music Neighbours Grant were announced this week. Delivered by Creative Victoria in partnership with Music Victoria and the National Live Music Office, the Good Music Neighbours grant totals up to $279,897 and is given to various Victorian live music venues to help them  better manage sound in and outside of their venues via expert advice and building renovations.

A total of 26 Victorian live music venues received a part of the annual grant this year, including the Brighton Savoy, Corner Hotel, God’s Kitchen Cranbourne, and The Loft. The full list of the 2016 recipients can be found here.

This week, the 2016 Face the Music contemporary music summit,  held on 17-18th November in Melbourne, released their full program. The full 2016 program and ticket information can be found here.

Applications for the 2017 Queensland Music Awards opened earlier this week. Published and unpublished original songwriters from all across the state are encouraged to apply before midnight 4th of December, 2016. The awards will include 23 different categories  judged by a panel of over 50 music industry professionals from all around the world. More information on how to enter can be found here.
