Contemporary Music Investment To Generate $40.2 Million
Ernst & Young have recently published a report (as commissioned by APRA|AMCOS, the Australia Council, Australian Hotels Association, PPCA and the Restaurant & Catering Industry Association) that has assessed the viability of tax offsets for the contemporary music industry and the results have a found a little bit of a silver lining as it would seem the live music industry is heading into dire territory with the recent lock out laws debate raging.
Their research has indicated a $40.2 million windfall for the economy derived from investment in the contemporary music industry, the research focusing on predominantly venues, labels and artists. Says Dean Ormston (APRA|AMCOS Head of Member Services) of the findings,
“In a purely economic sense, investing in the live music industry pays dividends. For every dollar Australians spend on live music, three dollars circulates back into the economy. An investment incentive of this nature will stimulate an immediate lift – more venues will host live music, more often, which means more artists performing, more jobs in production, more jobs to serve the patrons attending, more accommodation and travel expenditure across the whole country – millions of dollars in revenue.”
“The contemporary music industry has traditionally received very little investment support. A vibrant local live music sector is critical to ensuring broader industry success and developing Australia’s considerable music export potential.”

Live Nation Australasia & UNIFIED Announce Partnership
In massive news, Live Nation Australasia and UNIFIED has joined forces and have announced their touring partnership banner – Live Nation & UNIFY Present. The first tour the two have on the go of course, is the huge return of Bring Me the Horizon, who are set to his Australian arenas.
Luke Logemann will head up UNIFIED’s touring strategy, having worked with the company’s founder and CEO Jaddan Comerford for over 10 years and has a wealth of touring experience to his name. Of course, Live Nation has been involved in some of the biggest tours of heavy rock in recent years, with Metallica, Black Sabbath, Soilwork, Tonight Alive and more to their name. In the UK, they are also the promoters of the popular Download Festival. Joining on as a Live Nation promoter is Nigel Melder, who makes the move from Destroy All Lines, where he worked as head of touring for the past eight years.

Wu-Tang Clan Wage War On Lock-Outs
The Wu-Tang Clan have recently thrown their support behind those campaigning against current NSW policy decisions to keep the lock out laws in place, addressing the crowd of thousands at their recent Allphones Arena date, “We going to get these laws changed for y’all”.
As published by the Daily Telegraph, Labor MP Chris Minns commented on Wu-Tang’s recent words at the Sydney show, “I don’t normally get my advice from a man named Ghostface Killah but on this one, he is right. These laws need to be changed.”
Wu-Tang’s Sydney afterparty was held out in Bondi at the Jam Gallery according to promoter Nicolas Greco, “As inner Sydney is held hostage by these ridiculous lockout laws, we held the Wu-Tang Clan afterparty in Bondi Junction at Jam Gallery, so the guys could actually get in when they rocked up.”

This weeks AIR Charts have seen a slight shake up from new releases and award winners. Starting with the Independent Singles Charts, we see Tim Minchin‘s political pop song “Come Home (Cardinal Pell)” slide into number two in its first week after release and Vance Joy sneaking yet another into the charts with “Straight Into Your Arms” at number nine. The number one spot on the Independent Album Charts has been stolen by The Jezabels with their latest release, Synthia.
