The Preatures guitarist/vocalist Gideon Bensen has somehow found time in between touring with the Sydney band to work on solo material that has been announced today! Not only has Bensen released the first taste of his forthcoming solo EP in “All New Low”, but he’s also dropped details about his own record label and some single launch dates set up for February.
“All New Low” saw Bensen work with producer Tony Buchen, with hip-hop influences working their way into the mix. Says Bensen of the new track, which features the likes of Megan Washington, Jack Moffitt and Carlos Adura on backing vocals and instrumentation: “While on tour with The Preatures, I found myself working on tracks more and more, up at all hours, in transit, in hotel rooms, wherever I could set up. I was obsessed. …It’s a world [hip-hop] I never really explored until now. I was inspired by acts like N.W.A, Bomb da Bass, Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus and D’Angelo‘s Black Messiah and wanted to incorporate that into what I was doing.”
Pretty cool, huh?
Take a listen to “All New Low” below and be sure to check Bensen out when he plays the following one-off shows in Melbourne and Sydney next year. Bensen’s debut solo EP is out in February through his own label, Puncture Records.
