Spoon wrap up a special SXSW residency ahead of Hot Thoughts album release and Australian tour

Austin, Texas based outfit Spoon proved to be one of the hottest tickets this week at SXSW as they performed a residency of intimate shows at The Main (Formerly Emo’s) in the heart of their hometown. Across three nights at the venue, which wrapped up earlier tonight, the band played different setlists featuring tracks old and new, with the shows serving as a celebration of their brand new LP Hot Thoughts, which hits record stores today.

Guests at the intimate shows were treated to some free album release goodies including pins and beer cosies. The band also played alongside a number of special and scheduled guests, chosen to accompany the band during their residency. Among them were The New Pornographers, !!!, A Giant Dog and Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen who played ahead of the band’s final performance. Leithauser primarily played tracks off the album he released with Rostam from Vampire Weekend last September, I Had a Dream That You Were Mine, including “In a Blackout”, which soared to popularity after it scored an iPhone 7 sync deal last year.

Spoon next head to Australia for two special shows. All the details are below.
