Splendour line up drops; The Strokes, The Cure & The Avalanches lead 2016 bill!

Well, god damn. After weeks of speculation, triple j today announced the line up for the 2016 Splendour in the Grass festival and it is huge. Headlining the Byron Bay event this July 22nd – July 24th at The Strokes, while rumoured headliners The Cure have also been confirmed. The Avalanches, who sparked excitement yesterday with updates to their social media channels, are also on the Splendour bill, playing their only Australian show.

Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem, two names who have been featuring heavily on the UK and American festival circuits so far this year, are noticeably missing from the Splendour bill, making us wonder what’s still to come.

Repping on the local front, heavy hitters including Courtney BarnettViolent SohoGang of YouthsFlume and Jagwar Ma are also featured, while some international artists we haven’t seen out this way in a little while like SantigoldThe KillsSigur RosJames Blake and a reunited At The Drive-In are also on their way back.

There’s a new stage coming to Splendour, with the Global Village this year hosting some of Australia and New Zealand’s best in contemporary world music; expect sets from the likes of BustamentoBobby AluKalidad and more! Burlesque, moving theatre and circus performers will also be roaming around – keep an eye out for those performers as well!

Highlights of the festival this year also include The Splendour Forum, which will host a series of panels and discussions featuring a cracking line up of guests including Tony Jones (Q&A). Splendour Arts also returns for 2016, with a program of eclectic and wildly enticing art installations, from sculpture to video art, a line up of talented contemporary artists will be doing their thing right throughout the festival.

Tickets for Splendour in the Grass are on sale from 9am sharp, April 21st – grab all the relevant information you need HERE!
