Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds reveal first single from new album, “Jesus Alone”

Ahead of next week’s release of Skeleton Tree, the 16th studio album from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, the iconic Australian band has unveiled first single “Jesus Alone”, a solemn number accompanied by an equally soul-bearing video taken from the band’s other project, a movie entitled One More Time With Feeling. The pain stemming from the unimaginable tragedy of losing a son has obviously informed the songwriting here, Nick penning the album following the unexpected death of his 15 year old son Arthur after he fell from a cliff last July.

“You fell from the sky, crash landed in a field near the River Adur”, Cave opens, seemingly addressing his son’s untimely death before merging his earnest metaphors with a restrained soundscape of broken organs and whistling strings that sit over tip-toeing drums and a beautiful, fractured piano.

The black and white clip – like the entire film – was directed by Andrew Dominik and will be screened around on the world on September 8th in 3D, threaded with the band’s performances, interviews, and Cave’s own narration. The album will be released a day later, on September 9th.
