This December, there will be a new boutique soul festival taking over Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl with a line-up jam packed full of international and local soul artists spanning eras all the way back to the 1960s. Though soul’s other big platform, Soulfest, may have been cancelled for the year, The Bureau is seeking to showcase the criminally underrated (in Australia at least) genre with a line-up led by none other than the only surviving member of The Temptations, Mr Otis Williams.
Williams is front and centre on an eclectic line-up which gives a nod to many generations of soul, represented by the likes of Charles Bradley, a man often referred to as the “screaming eagle of soul”, Melbourne six-piece Saskwatch, the instantly recognisable C+C Music Factory, local champ Andy Bull, singer-songwriter Asta, and more. Full line up below.
Otis Williams will be bringing his full band down with him to perform timeless Temptations classics like “My Girl” and “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, undoubtedly delivering a pretty special moment for Melbourne music fans who hold such records close to their hearts.
The festival will also be celebrating the season by offering picnic hampers full of gourmet foods and snacks, curated by event company Bright Young Things, who have also put together a list of local wines and imported beers for the event.
