Missy Higgins to headline the 2017 Barunga Festival this June

The 2017 Barunga Festival has released its first announcement today, revealing that Missy Higgins will headline the June weekender this year. Holding a special spot within the hearts of many music and arts fans, Barunga will be looking attract over 4000 people to the NT again in 2017 with the Katherine region well and truly on show.

The festival has held its spot as Indigenous Australia’s ultimate destination for arts, culture, music and sport for 33 years now and along with Higgins on this year’s line up, festival goers can also expect to see Skinnyfish Sound SystemBunna LawrieColoured Stone (celebrating their 40th anniversary), as well as a special performance by Justine Clarke, who will be performing with students from the Barunga School.

For Higgins, returning to Barunga is going to be a special trip.

“I had such an amazing experience at Barunga Festival when I attended a few years ago. I loved being immersed in the local culture and getting to see some really awesome bands from surrounding communities. I’m super excited to go back this time to be a part of the musical line up.”

Also featured on the music line up are The Lonely BoysB2M as well as 15 other bands from across the Territory. The Barunga Festival is a true way to experience the community and isn’t catered for show; the inclusive community event breathes energy and encourages cross-cultural participation for people of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous backgrounds alike. Head along to be entertained, but to also learn from the experience – Barunga is an event unlike any other.
