After far too many rumours swirling around, the unveiling of Australia’s Download Festival was finally given the official stamp this morning, with the event being confirmed by Live Nation, Unified and Secret Sounds.
The iconic heavy music festival will make its way to Melbourne in reflecting the set up and aims of the UK flagship event, which has been providing a platform for some of the world’s best heavy artists to perform, as well as showcasing some stellar local talent too. Four stages will be erected at the Flemington Racecourse on March 24th next year, with 28 bands set to play; with one third of the line up being Australian bred, it’s looking like Download is definitely aiming to fill a gap in the current festival circuit for local talent to show their chops.
Since the death of Soundwave, there has been a real lacking of avenues for this sort of major scale, internationally renowned festival brand to move in – though UNIFY has been cultivating an impressive niche and audience of its own, there’s always room for more world class heavy music to be showcased in Australia – start the Download hype now.
