Julia Zemiro returns as host of 2018 APRA Music Awards

Celebrating its 36th year in 2018, the APRA Music Awards have revealed details of this April’s event, today. With Julia Zemiro returning to host the industry event on April 10th, the APRA Music Awards will be held at Sydney’s International Convention Centre’s Grand Ballroom.

“For 12 years as the host of RocKwiz, I have had the sweetest gig: working with six generations of Australian artists, watching them work at close range and learning about their trials and tribulations.” Zemiro has said. “Hosting the APRA Music Awards is a wonderful celebration of many of these artists, their songwriting skills and the publishers who get them out there.”

Honouring Australian songwriters across the genres of dance, pop, rock, country and more, as well as the publishers who have helped bring these songs to wider attention, the APRA Music Awards will also be delivering the peer-voted APRA Song of the Year at the upcoming ceremony.

Robert Conley returns to the APRA Music Awards as Musical Director for the event, while this year’s APRA Music Awards will also see the departure of APRA AMCOS CEO, Brett Cottle. Having overseen the Awards since 1990, Cottle’s departure leaves sizeable shoes to be filled.

“It has been my great privilege to honour Australian songwriters and publishers at every APRA Music Awards since its inaugural event in 1982.” he has said. “Though much has changed over the decades, what has stayed the same since that first year when the likes of Harry Vanda, George Young, his brothers Malcolm and Angus, and Bon Scott all won, is that our songwriters continue to push the boundaries, passionately put in the work, and bravely create songs with meaning.”
