Flight of the Conchords, Flume & Crowded House: the 2016 ARIA Awards go down in Sydney

Australian music’s night of nights was celebrated at one of the main, if not the, Sydney venue largely seen as responsible for the stranglehold and death of the city’s live music culture – The Star. The irony wasn’t lost on many and thanks to Flume in particular, the Keep Sydney Open message of supporting the smaller local venues in need was brought to not only the packed venue, but the large TV audience watching at home.

The Sydney producer took away four awards this year for his sophomore album Skin, including Best Album, Best Independent Release, Best Dance Release and Best Male. He was joined in the multiple winners club by Brisbane’s best, Violent Soho, while King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard were also recognised.

Flight of the Conchords made a special appearance to induct Crowded House into the ARIA Hall of Fame ahead of their multi-show run at the Sydney Opera House, before a special tribute performance of “Fall At Your Feet” and “Better Be Home Soon”, courtesy of Missy Higgins and Bernard Fanning followed – preceded by the iconic band performing “Distant Sun”. Standing ovation well deserved.

Congratulations to all the winners – check out the full list below!
