Finalists of the 2017 Queensland Music Awards announced

Recently, the finalists running for the annual 2017 Queensland Music Awards (QMA) were officially announced. With the aim to recognise the achievements of some of the best emerging and established Queensland musicians, the QMA consist of 14 different categories including; jazz, world, video, schools, regional, and indigenous.

Chosen by a panel of over 60 music industry professionals, the winners from each of the 14 different categories will be announced at a formal ceremony held at the at the Brisbane Powerhouse on 27 March 2017. The full list of finalists within the 14 categories can be viewed in the video below or on the QMA official webpage.

The award ceremony will also include the naming of the 2017 recipient of the “Billy Thorpe Scholarship”, worth $10,000. Created by Arts Queensland, the scholarship is part of the State Government’s initiative to support emerging contemporary musicians who are currently based in Queensland. This year’s “Billy Thorpe Scholarship” nominees include; WAAX, Marville, Ella Fence, and Josh Steward from The Ninjas and High Tropics.

Furthermore, the 2017 QMA night will also include the “BOQ People’s Choice Awards” for the categories of;  Most Popular Female, Most Popular Male, and Most Popular Group.
