BIGSOUND reveals $100,000 music prize and expanded program in first announcement for 2017

It’s only April, but the BIGSOUND train has begun generating steam for another year again, with the music conference’s first announcement dropping this week.

In this first bit of news, BIGSOUND have announced the inaugural Levi’s Music Prize, offering BIGSOUND artist alumni the chance to land their share of $100,000. Supporting those artists who have surged forward in the time passed since their BIGSOUND experience, the prize has been established to keep those artists moving ahead.

The three year commitment will be expanded and fleshed out over the next few years, marking a significant partnership with the brand and BIGSOUND itself.

“The Levi’s Music Prize creates an important new link in the support chain,” QMusic‘s Executive Officer Joel Edmondson has said. “Enabling artists to capitalise on the opportunities created by showcasing in front of over 100 international industry players at BIGSOUND.”

On the final day of BIGSOUND, a panel of international music industry judges will award the first $25,000 to a BIGSOUND artist to help with their international career building goals, with the program to be opened up to BIGSOUND alumni who have been a part of the festival over the last five years, to apply for $25,000 over the next three quarters.

It’s another reason for musicians to get their applications in for BIGSOUND this year, with the showcase component of the event expanding in 2017 to become a four-night event. This means that showcasing artists now have the opportunity to perform twice from Tuesday – Thursday.

Applications are now open, while industry tickets are also on sale. Head to www.bigsound.org.au.
