Starting on Friday, A Weekend in The Gardens is giving Melbourne music lovers three days of prime live music. From one of Australia’s greatest songwriters in Paul Kelly, to some of the country’s best hip hop artists and songwriting collectives, the three-day festival event is not like your usual branded series of shows.
Playing to the likes of specific crowds, under the same banner, A Weekend in The Gardens has built up a loyal fan base after its inaugural event back in March. Taking place in the Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, the weekend will give Melbourne punters the opportunity to see some of Australia’s biggest touring artists in some truly beautiful surrounds.
Paul Kelly‘s headline show on Friday night, joined by Steve Earle and Middle Kids has already sold out, unsurprisingly, but will be one helluva show. Preceding his Sydney Opera House shows on Sunday and Monday, Kelly’s stop in Melbourne is going to be a special one indeed (the next time he’ll be in town, he’s heading to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl).
Fast forward to Saturday, and the hip hop lovers are set to receive a solid line up of performers, the bill headlined by Illy, who will be performing his final Melbourne show for the year at A Weekend in The Gardens. Joined by Thundamentals, Spit Syndicate, Birdz and hosted by one of 2017’s breakthrough rappers, Jesswar, Saturday at the Botanic Gardens will be one for the books.
And finally, on Sunday evening, Missy Higgins heads up a menu of great Australian songwriters, as A Weekend in The Gardens brings All Our Exes Live In Texas, Dustin Tebbutt and Harry Jakamarra to the Botanic Gardens for an evening of poignant, melodic and entertaining music.
With a wide array of food trucks and bars set up in The Eatery again, A Weekend in The Gardens has tailored its experience with a first-class festival presentation well in mind. We can’t wait to get down there this weekend, with tickets continuing to fly, get yours by visiting www.aweekend.com.au!
