We discovered a lot of great music at SXSW 2017 – and had the opportunity to catch plenty of our favourite buzz acts live for the first time. But few of my personal discoveries have sat with me quite as heavily as Swedish artist Albin Lee Meldau, who sits as runner up in two of our SXSW Award categories – Best Sound and Most Original Artist.
Taking cues from Antony and the Johnsons, Albin uses his music to show off his unique vocal skills, while delivering emotive and occasionally tongue-and-cheek lyrics, set against a stunning musical backdrop.
Watching this superb acoustic video of his track “Let Me Go” will give you an idea of Albin’s sound, as well as what we experienced in St. David’s Church during the SXSW Communion Showcase a little over a week ago.
