Single of the Day: Urthboy ft. Sampa the Great & Okenyo “Second Heartbeat” (2016)

Urthboy has dropped the next little taster of a track from his upcoming album today, “Second Heartbeat” and has demonstrated to the Australian hip-hop mainstay’s ability to link up cleverly with talented individuals who stand out on their own, rather than be relegated to backing vocalist/drowned out guest vocalist duties. For this tune, Urthy’s brought two of my favourite ladies on board in Sampa the Great and Okenyo, the latter we’ve been following for some time now and the former, who wasted no time in establishing a reputation for herself as a break out talents of 2015.

“Second Heartbeat” is another autobiographical narrative from Urthboy, whose smooth delivery makes the song undeniably upbeat and catchy. Matching this with Okenyo’s soulful chimes and Sampa’s wordplay detailing her own story in pursuing music, the three distinct flavours from the artists makes for a great listen. As a follow up to Urthboy’s previous release, “Long Loud Hours”, “Second Heartbeat” offers listeners another look into the themes of the new Urthy record, potentially some of his most open and personal work yet.

Offering charm, light and dripping with musical richness, “Second Heartbeat” is definitely worth your attention today. Listen below!
