Single of the Day: Tia Gostelow “That’s What You Get” (2017)

To say that Tia Gostelow is still under the ’emerging artist’ banner… it is a bit of an old hat for the young songwriter to don. Since taking out triple j’s Indigenous High competition last year, Gostelow has been harnessing for herself a powerful presence within the crop of Australian songwriters who have been coming out of the east coast with some powerful talent that would easily keep the more established names of the industry on their toes.

In her single “That’s What You Get”, Gostelow proves the above once again. Her vocals are arresting as ever, while lyrically and musically, the Queensland Music Award winner keeps on pushing, crafting music that oozes finesse and maturity. The song itself is an upbeat, clever pop number – the balance of pop sensibilities with the pure rich songwriting technique that has landed Gostelow on many-a playlist in the last year is kept brilliantly in check.
