Single of the Day: Problems “Pretending” (2015)

Adelaide duo Problems have released maybe one of my favourite tracks this year in “Pretending”. Having been working consistently through 2015 on new music, developing on the live front and generally establishing a presence for themselves not only in Adelaide but with a wider audience beyond, Justin Walkden and Shane Lock have demonstrated with this tune that their series of collaborations in studio is only getting stronger and it’s a creative process definitely paying off.

The chill factor on “Pretending” is sublime while the Glass Animals-esque minimal aspect to the production makes the song great to be able to focus on Lock’s vocals and Walkden’s talent as a producer. The melodies are easy to latch on to and while the tune does offer that classic dreamy, hazy element a lot of ‘chillwave’ artists present with their music, there’s also something fresh about “Pretending” that coats the song with a glossy sheen.

Ready for the summer, load this one up and play it throughout.
