Single of the Day: Nathan Hudson “Getaway Car” (2016)

It’s been a joy to see Faker frontman and songwriter Nathan Hudson return with some new music, his first solo work in four years. This new project Hudson has embarked upon is entitled Map of Stars and sees the writer head to a new city every month to link up with a group of  musicians and write, record and release two songs.

The first fruits from Map of Stars have come in “Getaway Car” and its B-side, “Heavens”, which were written and recorded during Hudson’s recent time in Los Angeles. Melodic and catchy, “Getaway Car” in particular evokes memories of Faker material in terms of chord progressions, but the songwriting and Hudson’s vocal range come packing freshness and reinvigoration.

A feel-good guitar tune, “Getaway Car” is surely the first of a run of impressive new songs from a talented songwriter who’s been away too long for our liking.
