Man, does this new Gypsy & The Cat tune feel fresh. I remember back a few years ago, the duo was everywhere off the back of Gilgamesh and it also felt like they drowned out every other indie-pop act pounding the pavement for a little while there. Then, Gypsy & The Cat went away. They returned with The Late Blue, but I always felt like there still remained a lot of potential that wasn’t wholly tapped into.
And so we find ourselves here: February, 2016 and “Inside Your Mind”. It could easily work as an introductory tune for those coming to Gypsy & The Cat for the first time or, if you’re like me, you’re approaching them with memories of summers and festivals past. The production on their new single is crisp while those trademark grooves and falsettos remain prominent elements of the final result. Having that acoustic guitar in around the hazy beats anchors the track while the synths and programmed percussion swirls above.
