Music Video of the Day: Drown This City “I’m Not Divided” (2016)

If you haven’t heard of Alex Reade, you’re goddamn about to. The front woman of Melbourne post-hardcore group Drown This City has a voice to be reckoned with and in their latest single, “I’m Not Divided”, the vocalist absolutely shines.

Rolling with the punches of being part of (still) heavily male-dominated genre is a facet of Reade and Drown This City’s career that will undoubtedly be brought up time and time again and, well, rightly so. However, this new single and it’s accompanying film clip demonstrate that in Reade’s vocal talent, she’s more than just a girl in a heavy rock band.

The band worked with Nick Kozakis and Dillon Pearce on the music video, the narrative of which captures the rebellious fury of the song itself. As Reade says of “I’m Not Divided”, “The concept for the film clip was to elaborate on this message, with the heroine being a part of ‘the resistance’ and being chased down by those who wish her harm. Ultimately she beats the crap out of them and rises above any oppression or threat to her freedom.”
