Music Video of the Day: Anna Wise “Coconuts” (2017)

US artist Anna Wise is gearing up for the release of her sophomore EP The Feminine: Act II (out February 17th) – further exploring some gorgeous alt-R&B vibes. Her single “Coconuts” is breathy and groove-filled, a great example of the production behind her work and where she’s still to go.

Most recently, Wise has released a music video for “Coconuts”; self-directed, the clip is driven by Wise’s desire to explore and celebrate female unity. Filmed during a cold Brooklyn winter, “Coconuts” (and The Feminine: Act II) urges women to be happy with themselves in their natural forms.

“The energy on set was that of a teenage sleep over, and I mean that in the best possible way.” Wise has explained. “We spoke about love and orgasm and art and activism and inter-sectional feminism while we massaged each other’s feet and stretched. We ate together and sang together between takes. We spent more time relaxing than we did shooting the actual video. This is how I like to work…easy, natural, flowing, and tapped into the frequency. By the time we had accomplished the shots… everyone was in a sedated, dream-like state. We had an exquisite experience curating a positive healing energy that we now hope is going to shine through to everyone who watches.”
