Mary J Blige shares new single “Love Yourself” featuring Kanye West

Just in time for her Australian tour, the one and only Mary J Blige has released the first single from her forthcoming Strength of a Woman LP.

It sure is “hardcore hip-hop soul”, as Mary described in a recent interview on U.S station Power 105.1, with a blistering guest spot from Kanye West who bursts onto the scene after a soulful slow-burn, highlighting the iconic singer’s penchant for piecing together biting emotional ballads.

“It’s been a long ride, but I made it here love”, speaks the queen as she soars over dramatic keys, a tender moment before squeaky vintage horns and a kicking drum pattern rise up, giving the track a rough edge with Mary sounding slick, preaching “you gotta feed yourself/before you feed somebody else”.

Mary J Blige will play Bluesfest in Byron Bay a few weeks before her new album is released on April 28th. Check out full tour dates below.
