Exclusive Single Premiere: The Montreals “Sardines” (2018)

Adelaide indie group The Montrealhave returned with a bombastic new tune in “Sardines”. Following on from the success of their debut EP, The Montreals have continued finessing their style, carving their own spot out within the local Adelaide scene, and aiming higher with this new little banger.

The harmonies instantly bring up memories of early-Wombats mania, Friendly Fires and Two Door Cinema Club at their peak – an excellent time for the indie movement. It’s the soundtrack to many a 20 something’s uni career (I know it was for me), and it’s slightly bizarre to still consider a band like The Montreals as still relatively new. This is a sound that has been well honed in the past, sure, but there’s a refreshed sense of fun behind what The Montreals are doing with it that makes a song like “Sardines” stand out from an overflowing throwback pile that other bands have found themselves in, in recent years.

A surefire favourite on live stages soon to come, “Sardines” is a perfect summer jam and as the band coos on track, it makes me feel good. Chances are it’ll make you feel good too.
