Exclusive Single Premiere: Scalphunter “Life Sucked” (2017)

Set to fire up in Brisbane this week, Perth’s Scalphunter have got BIGSOUND well and truly in their sights; with two hectic shows lined up, best believe this group is ready to shake things into submission ahead of the release of their debut album Lies. From it comes new single “Life Sucked”, which we are stoked to be giving its online premiere today – almost three and a half minutes of scorching punk rock, the latest from Scalphunter sees the four piece at their best.

“Life Sucked” isn’t merely a balls to the wall tune meant to be easily digested in a sweaty venue; the song is strong in its melody, punishing guitar and rhythm section. Scalphunter have been continuing to hone their talents as a musical unit and most definitely, live, they’ve become a force to be reckoned with. “Life Sucked” is a great example of when all these elements come together, the end result is shocking but in the best way.

As songwriter Steven Knoth has mentioned, the triumphant nature of “Life Sucked” (despite the song’s title), was definitely deliberate.

This song is about a triumph over a false society. It is so easy to be fooled by glossy campaigns and this story stands up against it. “You swung your wooden sword and sucked the life right out of me” is saying how from a distance the sword looks strong and sharp, however up close it is weak and wooden. Much like the promises made to us by our politicians.”
