Darwin’s At the Dakota have continued to prove themselves as one of the NT’s most entertaining indie bands with the recent release of their new single “Bad Vibes Ruin Highs”. Refusing to stray (and why would they?) from irresistible melodies and a lyricism that has continue to develop in its depth and delivery, At the Dakota have broken open this new chapter for the band with vibrancy and optimism.
The music video, helmed by filmmaker Amy Hetherington, reflects the laidback and fun nature of the band – a crucial directive from the jump.
“At The Dakota are such a fun band we had to make sure the music video reflected that!” she says. “Lead singer Dylan Podsiadly had the idea for the video and it was such a perfect fit. “Bad Vibes Ruin Highs” is about those people who intentionally or unintentionally ruin your mood, we think we captured that in this silly, playful video. It’s always nice capturing the energy and playfulness of a group of people in a video, I think this gives a good sense of what it’s like seeing the boys live”.
Guitarist Jaxon De Santis opens up about making this unique and funny clip, saying, “It was weird, challenging, uncomfortable being a giant cardboard box for most of a day being a character. But it made for some very funny footage.”
I got to be annoying, break stuff and throw water on people… ultimately I had to pay the price though when ended up on the ground covered in sausages, confetti and tomato sauce.”
At the Dakota launch the single at the Darwin Railway Club on June 1st, before performing at TROPICAL JAM at the Darwin Pints Club on July 28th. Keep up to date with the band on social media, here!
