Exclusive Music Video Premiere: Alex L’Estrange “Nothing To Hide” (2016)

Alex L’Estrange has really come out of nowhere this year, hasn’t he? From intriguing and enigmatic early performances to the captivating shows he’s been giving crowds on the latest Holy Holy tour, the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter has been giving music fans much to talk about in recent months. When it comes to new music, L’Estrange is gearing up for the release of his debut EP in Auchenflower, set to be unveiled this December 16th.

From it we’ve recently heard his new single “Nothing To Hide”, a vibrant and confident composition that could be cut from the same cloth as Innerspeaker-era Tame Impala in its magnetic and dream-like appeal. It’s music video, directed by Corey Donaldson, shows the female protagonist navigating a world inhabited by mannequins, eventually becoming one herself. As a look at the idea of individuality surviving in a landscape where everything and everyone is appears to be the same, “Nothing to Hide” is presented in a sharp and clever way.

“It’s clear that deep within her mind there is an original voice struggling to get out,” L’Estrange has said of the music video. “She’s questioning her environment, and trying to understand why she feels so disconnected. Cecilia Griffiths’ incredible expression really created the atmosphere of the clip and brought an air of mystery to the role. She has an innocence that is both charming and devastating.”

Check “Nothing To Hide” out below and be sure to catch Alex L’Estrange performing at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on January 28th, as part of their Last Party Before the Lock Out event!
