Kanye West’s collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign, “Real Friends”, was shared online last week as part of the rapper-producer’s revitalised “GOOD Fridays” series, presenting us a with a dusty, soulful track leaning towards the earlier days of ‘Ye’s career. Just days later and supreme soul queen Erykah Badu has added her own spin to the track, arguably improving it with “Trill Friends” and lyrics from the Whodini classic “Friends”, a song which has been sampled many times throughout hip hop history.
“JUST Ride out to this”, Erykah states in a message accompanying the Soundcloud stream, further explaining the spontaneous remix with “BADU MESSIN ROUND THIS MORNING (really suppose be recording something else …)”. There is an indication that this remix will be included on another forthcoming mixtape titled THIS $h!t TOO EASY.
This isn’t Erykah’s first remix of a trending track in the past few months either; the unique artist recently put out a remix of Drake’s “Hotline Bling”, which she included on her excellent mixtape But You Cain’t Use My Phone”.
