The Courtyard Sessions at the Seymour Centre continue this Friday, with the free live music series seeing William Crighton, plus a special support set from Baghead, taking to the stage. The music is kicking off from 6:15pm on Friday, with Crighton performing two sets at 7:15pm and 8:15pm, respectively. Ahead of the show on Friday, Crighton recaps some highlights of his 2015 (including touring with The Basics), what this year has in store and which rapper he’d program on a series like this…
How would you describe your sound?
That’s a tough one, I just put it out there.
Who do you cite as inspiration?
Everyone I meet.
If we were to listen to one song from you, what should it be?
“Priest“.
What can we expect from your set at the Courtyard Sessions?
I’m bringing a couple of good friends of mine down to play as well – Baghead – they will open the show and then Ill be playing with Chris Dale, my brother Luke and Reuben Alexander, performing material from my debut record, as well as a bunch of other songs. We won’t hold back. For better or worse.
If you could program one Australian artist to be a part of an event like this, who would it be and why?
Mathas. I just saw him at the Nannup Music Festival and he was awesome.
Fill us in on what you’re up to at the moment?
I’m just about to release my debut album, it’s been a long time coming and I’m really happy to be finally sharing these songs with whoever wants to listen.
What were the highlights for you in 2015?
I played a bunch of really fun gigs last year. The highlights were touring with Aussie band The Basics and also playing a music festival called Dashville Skyline. I grew a few mean beetroot in the garden too.
What do you have in store for 2016?
Playing a lot of gigs and some festivals, chasing my beautiful daughters around with Jules, working in the veggie garden, building a few fences with Luke… Try and read a bit more, try and get fit, win lotto? Hopefully discover a few more parts of this wonderful country.
How important are events like this to the local scene?
Events like these help define the local scene by giving emerging artists a great environment to perform original material. It is so important to have gigs such as these! Thank you for having me.
