Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real discuss growing as a live band, Something Real & more at Bluesfest!

Since 2009, Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real have been touring and releasing music to an ever-growing fan base around the globe. For Nelson, music has been in his blood ever since a young age, touring with his father Willie Nelson early on, developing his own style along the way.

The band, notable for performing alongside Neil Young, have been in the country for Bluesfest, where they performed some highlight sets of the festival demonstrating that, particularly in their latest album Something Real, this group of musicians have been creating some serious magic in studio that is perfect for the live stage.

“We’re enjoying the hell out of it,” Nelson tells Larry, the band catching up with the AU in Byron Bay. “It’s a beautiful record and we spent a lot of time doing it. It was two years ago that we did it and we’re only now playing a lot of those songs live, so there’s a new freshness to them because we haven’t played them in a while. I think it’s great, I think we’re having a blast playing it.”

“We go out there and no song is every played the same twice.” he says of the band’s famous live presence. “I think we get that from guys like Neil, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Hendrix…live shows are completely different from recording and we are a live band. That’s what we do best. We go out there and create a connection with an audience and create almost like a holographic bubble of a completely separate energy from anything surrounding it.”
