In Sydney ahead of their wild show at the Metro Theatre, Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambia sat down with Larry to have a chat about touring, balancing family life with the band and more. In parts two and three of our interview with Sanchez, we find out more about the band’s life on the road and more!
Describing the process of making the band’s latest film clip, this time for single “You Got Spirit, Kid”, Sanchez remembers the amount of fun the band had delving into some teenage nostalgia.
“It was a lot of filming,” he admits. “It was a one day shoot, well actually two, excuse me. A lot stuff just crammed into those days. A lot of running around, a lot of set ups. It was a lot of fun to see it all come alive and for us to play these roles. I mean, these are movies that we grew up on and getting the chance to pay homage to Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Breakfast Club…it was fun to play those roles and to see how they’d come alive with us as those characters.”
On the fans’ response to Coheed and Cambria’s new album, The Color Before the Sun, Sanchez takes us through how the band has perceived it all.
“I think it’s been very positive,” he says. “I think our fans have been growing up with us. When we decided to do The Color Before the Sun, and decided to allow the concept of ‘breather’, we were a tad apprehensive because it falls outside of the formula of what Coheed is used to. For the most part, we just said, ‘Let’s just do it,’ and I think we realised that a lot of our audience is growing up with us and maybe experiencing some of the things that I had, when writing the record.”
