Artists at BIGSOUND 2016: Tigertown (Sydney) on their return to The Valley!

For Tigertown, this year’s BIGSOUND music festival and conference isn’t going to be their first rodeo at the Brisbane event. Hitting BIGSOUND for their third time, it’s safe to say that they’d have some tips and a game plan in place to survive the chaos. Alexi Collins takes us through it as part of our 2016 artist preview series…

How have previous BIGSOUND experiences treated you, if 2016 is not going to be your first year?

This is our third time at BIGSOUND, but our first time in over two years. BIGSOUND is always a really good time for everyone in the music industry to hang out and listen to good music. It’s always good hanging in the Valley.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

My plan is to make my own schedule and to break away from the group when I need to. Hanging out in groups can be great but when you know what you want to see, you need to go solo.

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

Alex Lahey has a lot of buzz at the moment, so I’m really hoping to catch her because I love what I’ve heard and had a couple of friends rave about her live show. I also love Middle Kids. Chris from Tigertown has done some mixing for those guys and we’re real keen to see them live.

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

I think just making friends and starting conversations with other artists and people in the industry. The Australian music industry has such a cool supportive community, BIGSOUND is like the Christmas party.

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

Yeah, we’ve been working on new music over the past year that will be released soon. Got some brand new songs to play at BIGSOUND.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

This is our latest single, “Lonely Cities” – we’ve also got an EP of the same name and we will be playing most of those songs, so [it’s a] good idea to listen to that!
