Artists at BIGSOUND 2016: Jack Grace (Sydney) on returning to the Valley & working on new music from hotel rooms

Hype continues to swell around Jack Grace and rightly so – his new single “All Lost” is a shining example of the clever talent this muso has been showcasing in recent months. With  an EP on the cards for October, Jack is just getting started and BIGSOUND is the next target on his list.

If you’ve attended BIGSOUND before, either as a delegate or performer, how did that experience treat you?

Last year was my first year; I was playing a set with BUOY. Was a manic few days…bit of a blur tbh.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about this; I think I’m going to set up a little studio in my hotel room and work on some tracks with anyone who’s sick of talking. Not that I’m against talking, I just know I will probably lose my voice if I don’t schedule some silence.

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

I’m definitely going to miss some names here.. I haven’t had a chance to check out Corin yet so will do that, I also haven’t seen Kučka doing her own thing live, so that’s a priority. BUOY (of course), I’m a fan of Ainslie Wills and their writing so will be there; I’m always curious to see what Anatole has going on, there’s so many people playing this year, I’m barely scratching the surface here.

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

Meeting like-minded people who are passionate and want to create and push forward. If I could come away with some strong plans and confidence to continue what I’m doing, that would make it a successful few days.

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

I’ve got an EP coming in October so will be playing stuff off that, also got some tracks that aren’t on that EP that I’ll be playing.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

I released the second single off my EP last week called “ALL LOST”.

Jack Grace performs two showcases as part of BIGSOUND this year, one at Ric’s on Wednesday, September 7th (9:50pm until 10:20pm) and at the Black Bear Lodge on Thursday, September 8th (3:15pm).
