Artists at BIGSOUND 2016: Fait (Perth) talks spreadsheets, speed dating & more ahead of her festival return!

Multi-instrumentalist Elise Higgins, aka Fait, is coming to BIGSOUND representin’ for the West Coast and stands to be one of the highlight artists of the live music program…at least, in our eyes. Since the release of her debut EP Atmosphere, Fait has continued to demonstrate a sharp talent for live performance and we can’t wait to see her shake things up in the Valley in a few weeks.

The lady herself tells us some more about her first BIGSOUND and how she’s anticipating her return in September.

How have previous BIGSOUND experiences treated you, if 2016 is not going to be your first year?

This is my second time at BIGSOUND; my band and I performed last year. We had a great experience. I’m self-managed, so I found the conference and speed dating industry meetings really beneficial. I made loads of new contacts, got advice on how to set up my own company, and unknowingly performed to my future label, Inertia.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

Well last year I was walking around with an A4 spreadsheet schedule, it was that mental! For me, my main focus is the conference and the networking opportunities. Getting to see a bunch of great bands at the end of the day is an added bonus!

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

I’m a big fan of Diger Rokwell, he is a fellow Perth native who writes gorgeous soundscapes. Then it’s all about the ladies; KUČKA, Olympia, Bec Sandridge and Tash Sultana are up the top of my list. They’re all ridiculously talented and unique.

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

Knowledge! And contacts. Network, listen and learn!

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

I’ve just released my second EP Sonder this week! There will be some new material showcased in our set this year. Our show is an audio/visual experience, projections accompany every song….so it’s a pretty immersive experience.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

This is my brand new single, “Reverie”!

Fait performs at BIGSOUND on Thursday night (September 8th) at the New Globe Theatre from 8:50pm until 9:20pm.
