Artists at BIGSOUND 2016: Ainslie Wills (Melbourne) on her must-see showcase artists & new music!

Representing for Melbourne at BIGSOUND this year, the talented Ainslie Wills and her collaborator and guitarist Lawrence Folvig will be hitting up the massive conference and music festival for the first time. Currently in the process of writing and demoing some new music to follow on from their acclaimed release, Oh The Gold, Ainslie tells us how she’s anticipating BIGSOUND this year in the meantime!

How are you anticipating the event, if this is going to be your first time at BIGSOUND?

Yes, this is will be our first BIGSOUND experience. We’ve heard such great things, so we’re interested to see what all the hoo-ha is about.

There are going to be so many shows to be seeing; do you have any type of game plan going into BIGSOUND this year when it comes to dealing with the craziness?

The answer will be blowing in the sweet tropical winds of Brisbane.

Are there any particular artists you’re keen to see that you’d recommend someone else hitting BIGSOUND for the first time?

Too many to mention but: Olympia, Sampa The Great, GL, LANKS, Teeth and Tongue and Tinpan Orange.

For emerging Australian talent, what would you say is one of the biggest things you could hope to take away from an event like BIGSOUND?

Another reminder that Australia is full of diverse and wonderful talent that the rest world needs to hear about.

In terms of new music, can you tell us a bit about what you’re working on at the moment and if you’re going to be looking to show off some fresh or new tunes for the BIGSOUND crowd?

We are in the midst of writing at the moment, with the aim of releasing some new tunes sometime next year. The new tunes are perhaps more piano focused than some of the previous releases and James Blake’s name has been thrown around a few times as a reference. We’re still very much in the demoing process, so we’ll see what happens.

What music of yours should we be checking out ahead of BIGSOUND?

An acoustic version of the song “Drive” from our most recent release, Oh The Gold. We shot this video with the lovely people from Side Show Alley TV!

Ainslie Wills performs at The Foundry as part of BIGSOUND on Wednesday, September 7th from 9:50pm to 10:20pm.
