Ahead of Old Mate’s Block Party…Getting to Know The Dead Love!

Sydney band The Dead Love will be hitting the stage at The Factory on Saturday as part of Old Mate’s Block Party – a celebration of the city’s rockin’ live music scene in the fact of venue lockouts and the restrictions currently killing vibes. We get to know a little more about the band from bassist Clint

Tell us who you are and what band you play in?

Name’s Clint Ossington and I play bass in The Dead Love.

How did this group come together and in particular, how did you get involved?

Stevie K (singer/guitarist) had a few tunes that became our first EP 1 a few years back; he’d seen me play around the traps in other bands and hit me up to have a listen. I dug it, we jammed and the rest is history.

How would you describe your band’s sound?

We’ve just finished recording our second album So Whatever; our sound has become a more 90’s Grunge/Powerpop kinda vibe, I guess.

If we were to listen to one song from your band, what should it be?

Just released the fist song for the new album, it’s called “Wastelands” and its free for download on the j’s!

What can we expect from your set at the Old Mate’s Block Party?

A good time? HA! I dunno, not to be a dick, but I always giggle when I read bands’ responses to this kinda question! I guess what you hear recorded but really loud, live and with three stinky ratbags playing it…

Who are you most excited to see at the festival and why?

Cherry Dolls, I caught their set at Chopped Festival in Victoria last year and they ruled!

What were the highlights for the band in 2015?

PARTY IN THE PADDOCK in Tasmania; the line up was killer with Dune Rats, Smith Street Band, Delta Riggs, Luca Brasi and heaps of other rad bands! Not to mention an amazing location to wake up in as well…though we didn’t feel amazing the morning after it! Everclear support at the Metro – full on nostalgia gig and writing and recording the new album, that was heaps of fun!

What do you have in store for 2016?

Super pumped to be dropping the new album with a solid run of dates around Australia and hopefully beyond.

How important are festivals like this to the local scene?

This shit is crucial!!  A gig like this is so rad because it doesn’t only unite punters for a good time, it brings bands together as well – it builds a scene and a sense of community among different artists.. It’s going to rule!

Who do you think should’ve won the Hottest 100?

Violent Soho.

Old Mate’s Block Party is being at The Factory (Factory Floor) on Saturday, January 30th. For tickets, head to The Factory’s website – for only $20 (or $25 on the door), you can’t pass up on it!
