The 40 Best Songs of 2015: Part Three – 20 to 11

We move swiftly now onto our next 10 tracks, as we look back at the best music of 2015. If you’d like to look back at part two, head HERE and part one of the countdown is HERE. Listen up and enjoy:

20. Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Ur Love One Night

The song is just plain strange when you think about it. It’s combining uncommon drum sounds with pure guitar god level riffs and weird percussion and synths. But it all somehow makes sense and feels simple, and will be stuck in your head all day. ” – Aidan Hogg

19. Troldhaugen – Viva Loa Vegas

Ever wanted a hot mess of a track that encapsulates every possible genre you could think of? Well, if you did, “Viva Loa Vegas” is it. To this day, I still don’t understand it, but my god, it is ridiculous.” – Dylan Marshall

18. Janet Jackson – No Sleeep

“Hook one of the most endearing voices in pop history up with her old production team and you’ve got a certified classic on your hands. “No Sleeep” is vintage Janet Jackson. Seductive, slinky, and smoother than anything she has done since the 90’s. The hypnotic soundtrack is perfect for Janet to groove all over, using her breathy, unaged voice to spin some truly great pop magic.” – Chris Singh

17. Frank Turner – The Next Storm

Great lyrics, excellent full band arrangement with The Sleeping Souls, also brilliant fun live.” – Jennifer Quinlin

16. New Order – Plastic

New Order came back with a vengeance and it was this song that broke down all the barriers. The remixes are just as good as the original too. ” – Dan Turner

15. Gang Of Youths – Radioface

The first time I heard “Radioface” was at a live show at Goodgod. I’d been at a Bucks party since the early morning, and decided to cut myself off the beers late in the afternoon or I wouldn’t have made the gig. Anyway, I made my way over to the gig, reasonably sober, and they opened with “Radioface”. I didn’t know it was Radioface at the time, but it was the most glorious six minutes ever. By the end of the song, I was back on the beers and had one of the loosest nights ever. Thanks Gang Of Youths.” – Dylan Marshall

14. Holy Holy – You Cannot Call For Love Like A Dog

Holy Holy are absolute genius songwriters and execute them flawlessly. This is really the song of the year, there’s no doubt about it.” – Gemma Bastiani

13. Swim Season – Soldiers

The brilliant falsetto, upbeat catchy pop sound, perfect for a summer road trip.” – Mairead Bilton-Gough

12. The Drones – Taman Shud

“This single is the vital shot in the arm Australia needs – and it’s a nice new direction from the Drones” – Ingmar Duldig

11. The Paper Kites – Electric Indigo

“Having been a long time fan of the Melbourne band, this track really captures the progression in their sound since they started out as a folk outfit. It’s just SO different to anything they have ever done but it’s so breathtakingly beautiful – they have totally nailed this late night 80’s soaked jam. Without a doubt my top pick and most played track of 2015.” – Bridget Hustwaite
