Six unmissable performances set to come out of Lollapalooza 2017

The biggest names in rock, hip-hop, pop and more will take over Grant Park for the 13th edition of Lollapalooza in Chicago next weekend. The four-day festival is headlined by Chance the Rapper, Arcade Fire, The Killers and Muse, but that is just the start of the packed lineup. Australia and New Zealand will have a great presence with Vance Joy, Lorde, Middle Kids and Alison Wonderland.

From August 3rd – 6th, Grant Park will become the center of the music universe and The AU Review will be lucky enough to be there. Here are the five shows we are most looking forward to seeing.

ARCADE FIRE

Performing August 6th, 8:30pm (Grant Park Stage)

There is nothing like an Arcade Fire show. Their rich, vibrant unpredictable sound is brought to life in an even bigger fashion than their albums. With the release of their new album, Everything Now, just a week before Lolla, there will be plenty of new music and new surprises to their setlist which already includes some of the greatest alternative rock classics of this generation.

THE KILLERS

Performing August 4th, 8:45pm (Grant Park Stage)

The Killers were one of the biggest rock bands of the 2000s; with the release of Hot Fuss and Sam’s Town, The Killers gained the level of notoriety that makes them belong here as a headliner. They are sure to receive some of the biggest reactions of the festival when they play “Mr. Brightside,” or “When You Were Young”, but with their first new album in five years they surely be re-energised and motivated to put on one of the best shows of the weekend.

VANCE JOY

Performing August 5th, 5pm (Bud Light Stage)

The Aussie took the U.S. by storm two years with “Riptide” and this is the first major festival where Joy will be playing his new single “Lay it on Me,” and perhaps other new tracks. Vance is no stranger to the large U.S. festival crowds but he may be preparing to launch into even greater fame this year.

RUN THE JEWELS

Performing August 4th, 6:45pm (Grant Park Stage)

Three years ago I saw the hip-hop duo of Killer Mike and El-p in a bar with about 100 people. Friday night at Lolla they will be playing the biggest stage of the festival for a crowd of over 100 thousand. Times have changed. What hasn’t changed is the raw energy, and in your face fun these shows include. There is a reason this band continues to grow in popularity and their live show helps them exponentially grow. Run the Jewels will surely have the Friday night crowd jumping up and down.

GROUPLOVE

Performing August 6th, 7:30pm (Lake Shore Stage)

Speaking of in your face fun and energy, no band better encapsulates that than Grouplove. A Grouplove show resembles a dance party mashed up with a mosh pit. The incredible talent this band possesses mixed with their oozing likability that radiates from the stage makes them infectious and impossible not to love.

KALEO

Performing August 4th, 4pm (Tito’s Handmade Vodka Stage)

Kaleo’s music is some of the most intriguing and engaging today. He is impossible to place in a genre and his shows range from hard rock to electronic grooves to emotional anthems. The Icelandic talent will surely become a great discovery of Lollapalooza weekend.
