Red & White: West Thebarton Brothel Party pair wine with tunes

Adelaide’s West Thebarton Brothel Party are more than just a seven piece out of South Australia who are fast making a name for themselves as a frenetic and engaging rock band. They’re also about the finer things in life. Like pairing a good red or white wine with some suitable mood music.

In honour of the boys’ return home to Adelaide this weekend for the epic Day Of Clarity Festival, the final stop of their “Red Or White” single tour, we put the challenge to the band to give us their top picks – what songs go best with a darker red, or with a sparkling white…

RED, RED WINE…

Sleepy Silver Door‘s “Dead Meadow”
Heavy and delicious like a Banrock bag…

The Middle East‘s “Jesus Came to My Birthday Party”
This is a fucking sad song. I don’t know exactly what it’s about, but it makes me feel who whoever’s birthday it was. A nice Shiraz is just what I need to really reflect on stuff. It makes me feel better, it makes my mind reset and you know what? After I listen to this track, I kinda feel good.

Oliver Cheatham‘s “Get Down Saturday Night”
My housemates and I ritualistically groove to this disco jam with a glass of our homemade Tempranillo. Enjoy at  sweaty room temperature.

#1 Dad‘s “Camberwell”
Tom Iansek can be compared to a nice drop of Shiraz: smooth, versatile and an Australian treasure. His tune “Camberwell” is best listened to while drinking three to four glasses’ worth.

Paul Kelly‘s “How To Make Gravy”
I can’t believe he gave away the grand recipe to his gravy so easily. There are few things I love more than red wine, sauce and Paul Kelly. It’s a marriage of my great weaknesses.

WHITE WINE TIMES…

José González‘s “This is How We Walk on the Moon”
Crisp, picked on a moonlit Swedish night, the bass groove lingers on the palate.

The xx‘s “Sunset” (Jamie xx)
I never drink white wine. In fact, you could say I dislike the stuff. But, on the rare occasion when I drink it, I wanna drink it quick. The driving disco vibe on this track definitely puts me in the mood to drink quick.

Flowertruck‘s “Sunshower”
One day I might discover a soft spot for white wine like I did for Flowertruck. Their tunes are clean, sweet an a touch on the fruity side.

Steely Dan‘s “Do It Again”
Crisp like a Stanley Dry White.
