Festival Destinations #001: (Road To) Ultra Festival – February 2018

Though this year is just getting started, festivals all over the place (including Australia) are beginning to unveil their line ups for respective summer and in some cases, winter, seasons. We’ll be taking a look at some of the heavy hitters coming up – across the board, these are some festivals bound to have people booking their airfares and landing AirBnB bookings soon.

Since the absolute banger line-up release of the first ever Ultra Music Festival in Australia, people have been jumping on the chance to score their tickets to what can only be described as the beginning of a truly phenomenal Aussie festival experience – one to add to our already legendary list. For the first time, Road to Ultra will be making its way down under this February at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl after years of playing sell out shows around the globe in Europe and the US.

We’re certain that this show is going to build quite the reputation for being on of the most highly anticipated and sought-after festivals in coming years. Ultra has already announced their intent to continue playing Australia shows in 2019, and as for this year they’re starting off with a line-up almost everyone can get around, so let’s check it out.

Will Sparks

Let’s kick things off with Melbourne-based producer and DJ – Will Sparks. He was given the No. 1 Australian DJ title in 2014 after touring the world and headlining at festivals such as Stereosonic and Future Music Festival. His soundcloud which features countless original productions – not to mention millions of plays, is a testament to what he’s accomplished in his short career, which shows no signs of slowing down. If you haven’t had the chance to see him live yet, you’ll want to see what he’s got planned at Ultra.

Timmy Trumpet

We know you would have heard of this Australian house DJ by now. To say Timmy Trumpet has taken the world by storm would be an understatement. Since his debut in 2007 he’s become an international name known in the realm of DJ and dance music, giving him the No. 1 DJ title in Australia in 2015. This landed him stacks of headlining gigs at major local and international festivals, making it no surprise that we’ll be seeing him in amongst the big list of names at Ultra.

Tigerlily

This young DJ/ artist from Sydney knows no bounds. Tigerlily has been captivating her audiences with her high-energy stage performances all around the globe since her debut in 2014. So far in her career, she’s not only scored herself a high spot on the ARIA Singles chart, but has also been named as one of Australia’s most elite DJs with the public voting her as the No. 1 female DJ for the past three years running. After finding herself on the big stage at Stereosonic, and recently signing with Island Records Australia – there’s no denying she brings it with her killer live sets and is definitely one to catch at Ultra this year.

Afrojack

Next up – Afrojack. There is no telling how far this extremely talented DJ from the Netherlands will go, which is evident by what he’s accomplished since his debut in 2003. He’s been ranked by DJ Mag as No. 7 on the Top 100 Djs list, as has been welcomed by massive electronic dance festivals such as Coachella and Tomorrowland to showcase his electrifying music. If that’s not enough – he’s been nominated for Best World Stage Performance in 2013 and 2015, so if by some chance you’re second guessing if he’s worth seeing live…well there’s your answer.

These artists plus many more including Carnage, DJ moe, and Andrew Rayel will all be headlining – considering this is Ultra’s first trip down under, they’re treating us to one helluva show. This year’s gig is only set to be a one-stage, one day event – but fear not. The full Ultra Music Festival experience – which is set to be a multi-stage, multi day event – will be hitting Sydney and Melbourne some time in 2019, so you won’t want to miss their debut show, later this month. Be sure to jump to it as tickets are selling fast! For updates and ticket information head here.
